January 3rd Appointments at MD Anderson

On January 3, 2008 Travis was scheduled for testing at MD Anderson. He had to go through a battery of cognitive tests which really gave him a run for his money. The next blog is a list of a few of the questions asked during the cognitive testing. See if you would have answered correctly!:) (Remember Travis could not use pencil or paper and was being timed by a doctor!) After his testing, Travis was scheduled to have an MRI to map his brain. This MRI locates and records the different parts of Travis’ brain for use by Dr. Lang and his staff while planning the surgery. It will also be used during the surgical procedure to help guide the doctor. Our technician met us in the waiting room and spent time talking to us about the procedure. He had really done his homework. He knew every detail of Travis’ chart; from Jennifer’s name to our religious preference. After talking to him about the MRI he confided in us that he himself was a Baptist believer and prayed with us right in the waiting room. We were in awe of how GOOD GOD is. A verse that has been continually on Jennifer’s mind is Eph. 3:20. She placed it at the bottom of the prayer calendar. This is what it says “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,..." We had not been specifically ASKING God for a technician who would share in our faith nor could we ever IMAGINE that our MRI technician would pray with us in the lobby of MD Anderson, but God in his greatness and power worked within and showed us His love. Isn’t God GREAT! After completing the MRI we were finished with testing for the day. It had been a long and stressful day starting with departure from our house at 6:45 and arriving back home at 5:00, but we are so grateful for how God worked in our lives today. We will return to MD Anderson to meet with Dr. Lang, the anesthesiologist, blood work and the second part of the MRI on January 9th. Travis will then be admitted for surgery on January 10th.

Travis & Jennifer:
You know that MANY people are praying for you and that God is bringing together just the right people in both a support role and in a medical role to lift you up and meet your needs. I have been praying for you since day one and have already seen the miracles God has in store for you. I believe you will see a complete recovery and that God will gain much glory from this! I mentioned to Debra that I thought I might know someone who works out at MD Anderson in the area of Brain Surgery. So happens I saw her at a Birthday Party on Saturday - Mandy Sowell - and found out that she is head of Administration for this surgical group of 10 doctors and knows Dr. Lang well. We have known her and her husband for almost 20 years and used to attend the same church. They are a strong Christian family and she had some wonderful things to say about Dr. Lang. One important note - she said that one of the doctor's in their group had a brain tumor and chose Dr. Lang to do the surgery. She said she is available at any time should you have any questions or just want prayer. Let me know and I can get her phone # for you. She has already begun to pray for the surgery.
Stay stong and know that nothing is impossible for God. He has already begun to prove that. Stay close to him and I will pray that Satan will be bound and God will not let doubts enter into your thoughts. We love your family and know that God has many plans ahead for your future!
